Sloan and Chenault Named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week

    March 3, 2016 LOS ANGELES – Men’s track and field junior Eric Sloan and junior swimmer Chealsea Chenault were named USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 23-Feb. 29, on Wednesday, Mar. 2.

    Eric Sloan won the men’s long jump with a score of 25-2.75 on the first day of the MPSF Championships at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash. on Feb. 26. He secured first place on his first attempt with a distance of 7.69m to advance to the event finals.

    The junior won the triple jump in the event finals to help lead the Trojans to the MPSF title on Feb. 27. Sloan posted a 53-06.25 jump with a distance of 16.31m to claim first place.

    The Trojans are next scheduled to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on Mar. 11-12.

    Also nominated for men's student-athlete of the week: Max de Vroome (tennis) and Brent Wheatley (baseball).

    Chelsea Chenault won the 500y free and helped USC win the 800y free relay as the No. 4 Trojans won their first-ever Pac-12 title last week at the Pac-12 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash.

    The junior won her first career conference title in the 500y free to lift the Trojans to a Day 2 lead. In the 200y free on Day 3, she finished fourth in 1:44.82 after finishing third the past two years.

    On the final day, Chenault led three USC A finalists in the 200y fly, finishing fourth with 1:55.16. In the 400y free relay, Chenault helped the Trojans take second with a school-record 3:11.87 in the final race.

    Up next, the Women of Troy will compete in the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Mar. 9-11.

    Also nominated for women's student-athlete of the week: Stephania Haralabidis (water polo) and Amalie Iuel (track).

    The USC Credit Union Student-Athletes of the Week are voted on by the student assistants and Sports Information Directors of the USC Sports Information Office. Nominations are compiled and distributed for voting by Brett Warner. Student assistant voters include, Andrew McKagan, Carlene Jones, Tera Novy, Kiia Brantley, Rachel Dobrin, Regan Estes, Lucy Worrall, and Alec Koondel.
