LOS ANGELES - Bob Wheatley of the baseball team and Haley Ishimatsu of the women's swimming and diving team were named USC's Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-Mar. 2.

USC senior Bob Wheatley was lights-out in the Trojans landslide 16-0 victory on Sunday, March 2, against 17th-ranked Cal Poly. The 6-5 left-handed pitcher from Villa Park, Calif., threw seven scoreless innings and recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts to pick up the win. Wheatley surrendered only two hits to the Mustangs all night and didn’t allow a hit in his last three innings of work. The senior pitcher went out in style as he finished with a three-strikeout seventh inning. After Friday and Saturday’s action against the Mustangs was rained out, the Trojans had a double-header on Sunday. The first game went the Mustangs way as they topped the Trojans, 6-1. However, led by Wheatley, USC sent a statement in the second game with a dominating 16-0 victory.

USC redshirt junior diver Haley Ishimatsu did something this week that hadn’t been done in nearly a decade. On Saturday, March 1, Ishimatsu became the first woman since 2005 to repeat as Pac-12 champion on the platform. The two-time Olympian from Seal Beach, Calif., finished with 340.20 points, which set a new Pac-12 Championships meet record. Ishimatsu’s mark was over 40 points higher than the second place finisher. Not only did Ishimatsu win on Saturday, but the junior diver also took home first place in the 3-meter springboard event on Friday. Led by Ishimatsu and several others, the USC women finished third overall in the 2014 Pac-12 Championships.
