USC's 400y medley quartet of juniors Kristen Lahey and Rebecca Soni, senior Emily Goetsch and junior Rachael Waller turned in the school's second-fastest time ever to qualify fourth for the finals on the first day of prelims at the 2008 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio, on Thursday (March 20).

The foursome swam a 3:34.68, less than a second off of the school record set by Hayley McGregory, Soni, Lahey and Rhi Jeffrey during a second-place swim in the 2006 NCAA Championships.

USC's previous fastest time of the season in the face came in the 2008 Pac-10 Championships, when the same group finished second in 3:35.45.

In other prelim action, senior Whitney Hentzen was 28th in the 500y free (4:45.55), Soni was 35th in the 200y IM (2:00.52) and junior Katy Houston was 45th in the 200y IM (2:01.96).

Finals begin at 7 p.m. EDT. The 400y medley relay final will be the final event of the night.
