No. 6 USC Takes 5-2 Loss To No. 3 UCLA|

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- The No. 6 USC women's tennis team was up against No. 3 UCLA in a crosstown rivalry matchup today, falling 5-2 to the Bruins in the teams' second face-off of the season. UCLA picked up the doubles point first and continued stayed strong through the singles matches to pull off the victory. USC goes to 9-3 with today's loss.
In the first doubles match to finish, UCLA's #11 Harrison/McPhillips defeated #8 Brynn Boren and Zoë Katz. Then, top-ranked doubles pair Anderson/Brady defeated #6 Zoe Scandalis and Giuliana Olmos 8-6 to grab the doubles point for the Bruins.
In singles play, the Trojans were up against higher ranked opponents on all courts. The Bruins grabbed straight-set wins on courts two through five. Gabrielle DeSimone gave USC one of its two wins of the day, beating Katilin Ray 6-4, 6-2. The clincher came on court four, where UCLA #36 Kyle McPhillips defeated #80 Zoë Katz 6-3, 6-3. The most competitive match occurred on court one where #30 Zoë Scandalis battled with #3 Robin Anderson for three sets and into a tiebreaker. There, Scandalis pushed through an intense third set and tiebreaker to win the match and wrap the day at Marks Stadium.
The Trojans next host No. 18 Baylor at Marks Stadium on Tuesday (March 11) at 1:30 pm.
