Women of Troy Whip Up 4-1 Win Over Washington State|

PULLMAN, Wash.--The No. 39 Women of Troy were victorious over the Washington State Cougars 4-1 on Friday afternoon (March 31) at Washington State's outdoor tennis courts. This win marks two in a row for the Trojans and improves their record to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The afternoon kicked off with doubles as USC's No. 34 Katz/Smith were quick to claim the first win of the day for Troy as they defeated WSU's Ates/Michalkova 6-1 on court two. The No. 33 Trojan tandem of Failla/Valdes secured the doubles point for USC as they swiftly beat the Cougar pair of Matejevic/Miksovska 6-2. The match on court three featuring USC's No. 67 Kulikov/Westby and WSU's Tomey/Yusupova was suspended with a score of 4-4. This was the first match since USC's duel with Baylor that the Trojans have won the doubles point.
The Women of Troy entered the singles portion of the competition with a 1-0 advantage. USC's No. 20 Gabby Smith jumped at the opportunity to claim the first singles point as she defeated WSU's Barbora Michalkova 6-1, 6-1 on court one. The Cougars struck next as Guzal Yusapova beat Trojan Rianna Valdes 6-1, 6-3 on court two to put a point on the board for Washington State.
USC's Madison Westby nabbed another point for the Trojans as she beat WSU's Victoria Matejevic 6-2, 6-3 on court four. Sydney Van Alphen would have the final word for Troy as she broke her four-match losing streak by defeating Cougar Lejla Colic 6-3, 6-1 on court six to clinch the match for the Trojans.
USC's next action takes the Women of Troy to Seattle to face the Washington Huskies on Sunday (April 2) at 12 p.m. PT.
