USC Women's Tennis Advances to Quarterfinals of Pac-12 Team Championships|

OJAI, Calif.--The No. 6 seeded USC women’s tennis team took down the No. 11 seed Washington State 4-0 in the first round of the Pac-12 Team Championships on Wednesday (April 26) in Ojai, Calif. The Women of Troy improve to 12-9 overall and will face the No. 3 seed Arizona State in the Quarterfinals of the tournament on Thursday (April 27) at 11 a.m.
Doubles kicked off the morning as the Trojans were ready with racquets ablaze. USC’s No. 80 Kulikov/Westby started off the day on a positive note as they defeated the Cougar pair of Tomey/Yusupova 6-2. The No. 41 Trojan tandem of Failla/Valdes wrapped up doubles play when they beat WSU’s Miksovska/Matejevic 6-1 to claim the doubles point.
The Trojans appeared to have found their rhythm entering singles play with a 1-0 advantage. Sydney Van Alphen continued to roll with that positive momentum from doubles as she snagged the first singles win 6-2, 6-1 over WSU’s Ege Tomey on court six. Van Alphen's win pushed the Trojans ahead 2-0 on the overall match score.
No. 28 Gabby Smith was next to put another point on the board for USC as she took down Cougar Bara Michalkova 6-2, 6-3 on court two. Madison Westby would have the final word for the Women of Troy as she was victorious over WSU’s Victoria Matejevic 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the match for USC.
