USC’s Olmos & Smith Fall In NCAA Doubles Action|

TULSA, OKLA. — The NCAA Individual Championships in Tulsa, Okla., came to a close for the USC contingent today after a Round of 32 loss for Trojan doubles duo Giuliana Olmos and Gabby Smith. After securing ITA All-American status as a seeded team in the NCAA Doubles draw, Olmos and Smith came up against a tough Texas pair in today’s opening round.
Senior Giuliana Olmos was making her second appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championships and first with sophomore partner Gabby Smith. Together, the two Women of Troy had a powerful 2016 campaign together in leading up to their NCAA journey. The Oracle/Masters Doubles Champions had worked their way to a #4 national ranking during the year and entered the 2016 NCAA tourney ranked #6 in the land while picking up a 9-16 seed in the NCAA draw.
In today’s opening NCAA Round of 32 doubles matchup, Olmos and Smith went up against Texas’ #16 pairing of Addison/Wagland. The Longhorn duo was able to hold strong against the two Women of Troy, managing a 6-4, 6-1 win that sent them on to the Round of 16 while capping Olmos/Smith’s season at a 19-9 overall record together. For senior captain Olmos, her career doubles record wraps as a stellar 102-39 mark as she closes out her USC playing career.
