WVB Post-Match Quotes: NCAA First Round (USC vs. Coastal Carolina)

    Dec. 5, 2014

Recap |  Final Stats |  Notes

    USC Head Coach Mick Haley
    Opening Statement
"Well I was really pleased with the way we played. I thought Coastal Carolina really came out and gave us all we could handle early. They played really, really well. I think they were well prepared by their coach. No. 10 is a very nice player. The setter did a good job. I just think we probably just ran them down a little bit with power, but they're a good team. We're very happy to have a 3-0 win. We're looking forward to playing whoever wins tonight, tomorrow."

"I was pleased with our defense tonight. I thought our middle backs did an outstanding job. Taylor [Whittingham] has been getting a lot of digs for us, but both middle backs did a really good job. I think Ebony [Nwanebu] is right. The setting was very good tonight. Everybody appreciated the setting tonight. That was good for us. We've been working hard to get into this tournament. Now that we're in it, we want to play. We know whoever we play tomorrow is going to be really good. It's just really fun to be here and have a chance to do this."

    Ebony Nwanebu, So. OH
On her efficiency during the match
"Just hitting shots and looking for what was open. The setting was very well. I thought it was very good tonight, so that helped a lot too."

    On NCAA tournament play
"It's one game at a time. It doesn't matter what happened really in the past or during conference. It just matters now from here on out."

    Emily Young, Sr. S
On playing in the NCAA tournament
"It's the NCAA tournament, so we take one game at a time. It's just stringing games in a row."

Coastal Carolina Head Coach Jozsef Forman
    Opening Statement
"First of all, I would like to congratulate USC. They played a very stable match and they deserved to win. At the same time, I would like to congratulate my team on a great season. We fought hard in the first two sets, and I'm very proud of them."

    Jenna Orner, Sr. DS
    On making the NCAA tournament
"This was really cool for us because it's something we've had out eyes set on for the past few years and to finally accomplish this, to get to this point was a really cool accomplishment. I'm really blessed that we had the opportunity to do this."

    Sam Skryd, Sr. S
    On making the NCAA tournament
"Going to the NCAA tournament is something I'm never going to forget. The feeling of stepping on the court and the atmosphere were awesome. Everyone was looking for a fight, because it's that 'do or die' situation where you know every match you watch is going to be a great match. I was happy that our team went out and played hard for us."

    Annayka Legros, So. MB
On the Future of the Team
"It was a great learning experience. USC has really amazing girls, and I'm pretty sure we walked off the court having learned something that we need to work on. I'm really excited for next year! We're definitely coming back to the NCAA tournament!"
