LOS ANGELES -- The USC women's volleyball program has added transfers Nikki Leonard (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty HS) and Madison Murtagh (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) to its roster for the 2016 season head coach Mick Haley announced on Friday, Aug. 5. Both from the West Coast Conference, Leonard--a junior setter from Gonzaga--and Murtagh--a sophomore middle blocker from San Francisco--are eligible to compete for the Women of Troy this season.

"Nikki Leonard and Madison Murtagh are two highly regarded transfers," said Haley. "Nikki will vie for a starting setting position and Madison will challenge for a starting spot among our middle blockers. Both of these young ladies are fantastic athletes and have had success at their previous institutions. We are excited to bring them into the program and onto our team."

Leonard appeared in 47 matches for the Bulldogs (171 sets) and amassed 496 assists, 336 digs, and 15 service aces. She logged a pair of double-doubles in 2015 and holds career marks of 34 assists (vs. Loyola Marymount, Oct. 4, 2014) and 18 digs (at San Francisco, Oct. 9, 2014). Murtagh was a WCC All-Freshman Team selection in 2015 and ranked fifth in the league for hitting percentage (.307) and seventh in blocks (1.11 bps). She was chosen to the all-tournament team in three pre-conference tourneys and was selected as the MVP of the Utah State Gossner Invitational.

The Trojans will open the 2016 season as hosts of the USC Baden Invitational at Galen Center (Aug. 26-27). The Women of Troy start the year with an 8 p.m. PT match on Friday (Aug. 26) against Marquette, and will appear on Pac-12 Networks. UC Irvine and Santa Clara will also play in the season-opening tourney.

Last season, the USC women's volleyball team claimed a share of the Pac-12 title with an 18-2 mark in league matches and received the No. 1 overall seed in the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. Head coach Mick Haley was named the Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year for the first time in his career and added the award to his Pac-12 and AVCA Pacific South Region Coach of the Year selections. He led the Trojans to a 33-3 overall record with a fifth appearance in the NCAA Regional Championship match in six years.
