Four Women of Troy Receive Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention

    SAN FRANCISCO -- Four USC women's volleyball student-athletes received honorable mention status on the 2015 Pac-12 Volleyball All-Academic teams announced by Commissioner Larry Scott on Wednesday (Nov. 25). In order to be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50-percent of their team's contests.

    Each of the Trojans' selections for academic honors are repeat choices. Junior setter Alice Pizzasegola holds the top grade-point average on the team with a 3.41 in international relations. Junior middle blocker Elise Ruddins is a communication major with a 3.25 GPA. Senior middle blocker Alicia Ogoms will graduate in May 2016 with a degree in policy, planning, and development and holds a 3.18 grade-point average. Junior libero Taylor Whittingham has a 3.08 GPA in communication.

    Whittingham is the Pac-12 leader in digs (4.86 dps) while Ogoms and Ruddins are each tied for second in the league for hitting percentage (.404). Pizzasegola averages 5.17 assists per set as part of USC's 6-2 offensive system and has helped the Trojans produce the league's second-highest overall hitting percentage (.291). The Trojans also lead the conference in assists per set (13.90 aps).

    The No. 1- ranked Women of Troy (29-1, 17-1 Pac-12) are home to wrap the regular season at the Galen Center and will host rival No. 13 UCLA (22-6, 13-5) in an 8 p.m. PT match on Wednesday (Nov. 25). The Trojans and the Bruins will meet live on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angeles in a match for valuable BMW Crosstown Cup points (BMWCrosstownCup.com). Tickets to the rivalry match are $5 at the Galen Center box office or online at GetTrojanTix.com/ucla. USC then welcomes California (9-20, 3-15) for Senior Day on Friday (Nov. 27) at 4 p.m. PT. The Trojans and the Golden Bears will appear on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Bay Area.
