Six Trojans Receive Pac-12 Academic Honorable Mention

    SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pac-12 Conference announced its 2016 Volleyball All-Academic teams on Thursday, Dec. 1, with six USC student-athletes selected for honorable mention status. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and appear in at least 50 percent of their team's scheduled regular-season contests.

    The Trojans' three seniors each received their third-career conference academic honorable mention selections. All three will graduate in May 2017; setter Alice Pizzasegola (Rivergaro, Italy/Istituto Superiore d'Istruzione La Grangia) with a degree in international relations; middle blocker Elise Ruddins (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel HS) and libero Taylor Whittingham (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita HS) with degrees in communication.

    Three Women of Troy received their first-career academic honorable mention nods including sophomore defensive specialist Victoria Garrick (Atherton, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep), junior middle blocker Jordan Dunn (Corona, Calif./Corona HS), and junior setter Reni Meyer-Whalley (Los Angeles, Calif./Marymount HS). Dunn is majoring in business administration; Garrick in broadcast journalism; and Meyer-Whalley in communication. Laura Larson of Arizona was chosen as the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

    The Women of Troy (18-13, 10-10 Pac-12) finished the regular season in a tie for seventh place in the Pac-12 and were selected to the NCAA tournament for the 26th consecutive year (34th overall). USC will face Hawai'i (22-5) in the first round on Friday (Dec. 2) at 4:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. PT) at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, Minn., on the campus of second-seeded site host Minnesota.
