Victória Chamorro Selected MPSF Newcomer of the Week|
March 31, 2015
Freshman goalie Victória Chamorro helped anchor the USC defense through a total of four shutout periods in two road wins last weekend. For her standout defensive efforts, Chamorro has earned her second selection as the MPSF Newcomer of the Week.
Against No. 17 LMU, Chamorro collected eight saves, including three stops against 5-meter penalty shots in a 20-6 win over the Lions. Sharing time in the cage in that victory, Chamorro allowed only four goals while holding LMU scoreless for over 21 minutes of play. The next day in an MPSF win at CSU Bakersfield, Chamorro had five saves in a 19-5 win while she and the Trojans shut out the Roadrunners for the final 17-plus minutes of the game.
Chamorro is averaging 6.6 saves per game and 4.2 goals-against per game so far in her freshman season at Troy.
Chamorro and the Women of Troy will carry a five-game win streak into a trip to Berkeley this weekend, facing Cal at 12 p.m. on Saturday (April 4) in an MPSF match to be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
