April 7, 2015
Monica Vavic had a heroic performance with a four-goal outing in USC's 6-5 comeback road win at No. 4 California. Her efforts have grabbed the senior's third selection this season as MPSF Player of the Week, marking the sixth overall pick in her Trojan career.
The Trojans were trailing the Bears by two, down 4-2 in the third period, when USC scored four straight goals - three of which came from Vavic. Vavic scored the equalizer, go-ahead goal and then added one more for a crucial boost to a 6-4 lead in the fourth period. USC would hang on for a 6-5 final, with Vavic having scored a total of four goals in the win to go along with three steals and two ejections drawn.
Her scoring effort pulled Vavic to 82 goals on the year, which is the second most ever in a single season at USC. Also, now with 273 career goals, Vavic has matched the third best career total in MPSF history. The win improved the Trojans to 3-1 in MPSF play and to 20-2 overall.
Vavic will be one of four seniors to be honored in a Senior Day ceremony on Saturday (April 11) before the Trojans take on San Jose State at 4 p.m. at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
