Hayley McKelvey Named to FINA Super Final All-Star Team

    June 12, 2017

Two Women of Troy have claimed silver medals at the FINA World League Super Final in China. Canadians Joelle Bekhazi and Hayley McKelvey -- both of whom have won NCAA championships at USC -- were both instrumental in Canada's run to the podium in China. At the close of competition, McKelvey was named to the All-Star Team. McKelvey's current USC teammate, Maud Megens, finished in fifth place at the tourney with her Netherlands squad.

A rising senior at USC, McKelvey produced 10 goals for Canada at the event, including a huge four-goal outing in the quarterfinals. She'd score three in the semifinals to go along with a big two goals from Bekhazi in the semifinals to push Canada into the title match. There, McKelvey added two more goals to wrap her 10-goal effort at the event. Megens, too, punched up a big game late in the tourney, tallying three goals in the fifth-place game to help the Dutch top a tough China team 14-4. Fresh off her freshman season at USC, Megens was just behind her current Trojan teammate McKelvey on the scoring front, having tallied nine goals for the Dutch. Bekhazi wasn't far off, either, as the 2011 USC graduate scored eight goals for the silver-medalist Canada squad.

All three Trojans are likely to move on to play for their respective countries at the FINA World Championships, which run July 14-30 in Budapest, Hungary. USC's representation at that event should be widespread, with several more international Women of Troy also looking to secure spots on their national team rosters.
