Sophia Racette was the top finishing Trojan in her collegiate cross country debut to lead USC to a seventh-place finish among Division I at the UC Riverside Invitational (6K) at the Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside, Calif. today (Sept. 17).
“It was a competitive race for our first 6K, we competed well,” said USC cross country coach David Freeman. “It is a good chance to see where we stand moving on. Having eight runners finish under 23 and three under 22 minutes is really good for us. We haven’t had anything like that in a while with our cross country program.”
Racette had a PR of 21:12.1 to finish 30th overall and lead the Trojans. Amber Gore was the next Trojan to finish with a PR of 21:37.3, good for49th. Finishing 58th, also with a PR of 21:48.1, was Madison Ricks.
Grimes, in her first race as a Trojan, had a time of 22:10.8 to finish 73rd. The last scoring Trojan was Mikaela Smith with a PR of22.28.1 to finish 86th.
USC did not figure in the 5K scoring with just two runners, but Kaymryn Weber had a time of 20:09.7 to finish 141st and Rachel Glynn had a time of 21:05.0 to finish 191st.
