• Utah State (18-8, 8-3) will play at San Jose State (11-13, 3-8) on Monday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. (MT) and host UC Santa Barbara (19-6, 8-4) on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the annual ESPN BracketBuster game. USU is 39-20 all-time against the Spartans and 36-22 all-time against the Gauchos. Last week, Utah State dropped a pair of road games with an 85-80 loss at Nevada and a 71-66 loss at Hawai'i. Senior All-American guard Jaycee Carroll led USU in both games as he had 29 points and four rebounds against the Wolf Pack and 27 points and eight rebounds against the Rainbow Warriors. On the season, Utah State is led by Carroll who is averaging 22.0 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and shooting 52.7 percent from the field, 51.8 percent from three-point range and 91.8 percent from the free throw line, while junior forward Gary Wilkinson is averaging 13.3 points and 6.5 rebounds and shooting 57.8 percent from the field and 81.3 percent from the free throw line. As a team, USU is averaging 72.9 points and shooting 50.7 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from three-point range and 78.2 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are scoring 68.8 points and shooting 44.1 percent from the field, 37.3 percent from three-point range and 71.3 percent from the free throw line.

• Utah State's track and field teams will take the week off before returning to action next weekend at the WAC Championships in Boise, Idaho. Last week, Utah State had six individuals win events in two separate meets at the Washington Invitational and the Boise State Team Invitational. Senior Amy Egan highlighted the weekend in Washington as she set a school record in the 800m, finishing in second-place with a time of 2:08.27. Other highlights from the women came in the 200m where freshman Katelyn Jensen finished 10th with a time of 25.20, sophomore Ashlee Cannon placed 21st with a personal best time of 25.66, and freshman Kimiko Kamo was 24th with a time of 25.72. At the Boise State Team Invitational, freshmen Alicia Holt and Sonia Grabowska recorded personal bests, as Holt placed first in the mile with a time of 5:12.64 and Grabowska finished third in the pole vault with a height of 12-9. Other individuals who performed well at BSU include sophomore Jennifer Scheiss who finished first in the high jump with a height of 5-5, senior Aimee Savageau who took second with a height of 5-3.25, and junior Tara Pickett who took fifth with a height of 5-1.25. Sophomore Krista Larson also placed first in the women's weight throw with a distance of 54-10.25. Highlights from the men's side in Boise were freshman Eric Larson's first-place finish in the mile with a personal beset time of 4:19.20 and sophomore Jared Glenn's second-place finish in the 3000m with a personal best time of 8:50.53.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

• Utah State (7-16, 3-8) will play a pair of home games this week as it hosts Nevada (17-7, 8-3) on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m., and Fresno State (15-9, 10-1) on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. USU is 3-5 all-time against the Wolf Pack and 1-4 all-time against the Bulldogs. USU has already played both teams on the road this year, losing at Nevada, 75-55, and at Fresno State, 69-52. Last week, Utah State snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 61-60 win at San Jose State. Senior forward Jamelah Brown led USU with 16 points and nine rebounds, while senior center Jenny Gross added 16 points and six rebounds and senior guard Taylor Richards scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. In the game, the Aggies shot 48.8 percent from the field as compared to 35.5 percent shooting for the Spartans. On the season, Richards is leading the team with 10.4 points per game, while junior guard Danyelle Snelgro is averaging 9.7 points. As a team, Utah State is scoring 60.3 points on the season and shooting 37.9 percentage from the field, 31.0 percent from three-point range and 70.7 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are scoring 65.7 points and shooting 44.5 percent from the field, 36.5 percent from three-point range and 66.8 percent from the free throw line.

GYMNASTICS

• Utah State's gymnastics team (3-7) will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday for a triangular meet with No. 2 Utah and No. 15 Southern Utah at 7 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Last week, USU finished in second-place in a triangular meet at home against No. 33 Brigham Young and No. 41 New Hampshire as the Aggies scored a 192.425, behind BYU's 193.725 and ahead of UNH's 190.900. Senior Megan Tschida led USU as she logged a season-best 9.875 on floor, tying for first, while freshman Nicole Simoneau shared top honors on bars after posting a 9.800. Simoneau also recorded a season-high of 9.750 on beam, tying for second, while sophomore Heather Heinrich tied a season-best with a 9.725 on bars, placing in a tie for fourth. Junior Nicki Felley also tallied a season-high on floor with a 9.825, tying for fourth with freshman teammate Jasmine Boone. The Aggies began the meet with a 48.350 on the vault, followed by a 48.000 on bars, a 47.225 on beam and a 48.850 on floor exercise.

MEN'S TENNIS

• Utah State's men's tennis team (2-7) will remain at home this week as it hosts Nevada on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. Last week, USU notched a 1-1 home record as it defeated Portland State, 5-2, and lost to Weber State, 5-2. During the week, USU was led by freshman Jakob Asplund who went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 in doubles play with partner Jonas Tyden. In singles competition, Asplund defeated WSU's Henning Hipp, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, and then beat PSU's Kyle Erickson, 6-2, 6-1. In doubles action, Asplund and Tyden defeated the Vikings' Kyle Erickson and Alex Hart, 8-4. Other Aggies who recorded wins against PSU include senior Fernando Gallegos at No. 3 singles (3-6, 6-2, 6-2), sophomore Oscar Ericsson at No. 2 singles (7-5, 6-0), and sophomore Matt Searle at No. 5 singles (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). Gallegos and Ericsson also combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles to give the Aggies the doubles points. Against WSU, senior Jonas Tyden notched a 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles for USU's only other point against the Wildcats.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

• Utah State's women's tennis team (2-5) will play two matches this week as it hosts Weber State on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m., and then plays at Utah on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. During its last competition, USU recorded a 1-4 record as it defeated Idaho State, 6-1, before traveling to Las Cruces, N.M., were it lost to Northern Arizona, New Mexico State and UTEP, 7-0, and to Idaho, 5-2. Freshman Hailey Swenson went 2-3 at No. 2 singles to lead Utah State during the week. In USU's 6-1 win at Idaho State, Swenson won both her singles and doubles matches in straight sets. She then recorded a 6-2, 6-7, 10-6 win against Idaho's Barbara Machiocha as the Aggies lost to the Vandals, 5-2.

MEN'S GOLF

• Utah State's men's golf team began its 2008 spring season with a 16th-place finish at the fourth annual Pat Hicks Invitational hosted by Southern Utah University. The Aggies finished the two-day, 36-hole tournament, with a 41-over par 617 (309-308). Senior Jeremy Pack led Utah State with a 36-hole score of 152 with rounds of 79 and 73 putting him in a tie for 70th place. Junior Devin Daniels tied for 75th with a score of 153 (80-73), while junior Tyler Labrum tied for 81st with a combined score of 155 (74-81). Freshmen Thad Truman and Toph Peterson also competed for USU and finished in a tie for 99th and 106th, respectively, with scores of 159 and 162. Utah State will return to action on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 3-4 when it travels to Riversdie, Calif., to compete in the Braveheart Classic.

SOFTBALL

• Utah State's softball team (2-7) will take the next three weeks off before returning to action on Saturday and Sunday, Mar, 8-9 in a three-game series at Colorado State. Last weekend, USU recorded a 2-2 record at the Campbell Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif., as it defeated UC Santa Barbara (4-3) and Indiana (6-5), and lost to Tulsa (9-8) and host San Diego State (4-0). Freshman shortstop Kelley Kaneshiro led USU during the tournament as she hit .400 during the weekend. Against Tulsa, Kaneshiro went 3-for-3 at the plate, hitting a single, a double and her first career home run as she had three RBI in the game. She also hit a single against Indiana and tallied another RBI. On the season, sophomore outfielder Emily Reilly leads the tam with a .333 batting average, while junior pitcher Lindsey Benson has a 2-6 record and a 4.58 ERA in seven starts. As a team, Utah State is hitting .210 on the season as compared to a .311 batting average for its opponents. USU also has a team ERA of 6.12 this year, while its opponents ERA is 3.05.
