COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah State men's and women's track and field teams had nine athletes place in the top five of their individual events, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, at the Air Force Invitational at Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Aggie women placed fifth out of 13 teams behind Colorado State, Adams State, BYU, and Wyoming. The Aggie men finished eighth out of eleven teams, which included Adams State, Air Force, Colorado, Wyoming, and Wichita State.

"We had a lot of great things happen today," USU head coach Gregg Gensel said. "Our young people are starting to come together and get season-bests and personal-bests. I was very impressed overall with everyone's performances."

On the women's side, Gensel singled out senior Amy Egan, sophomore Erin Stratton in addition to freshmen Sonia Grabowska, Katelyn Jensen and Maria Halton.

Egan took first-place in the women's 800m with a time of 2:12.75 while Stratton placed third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:18.77. Grabowska placed fifth in the women's pole vault with a height of 12-06.25, which is her personal best and is the third-highest in USU history and the second-highest in the WAC this season.

Halton posted two personal-bests, including the second fastest time in school history in the 60 m with a 7.67, good for second-place,while her third-place time of24.91 in the 200 is the 10th fastest time in school history. The 24.91 is the fastest in the WAC this season while the 7.67 is the fourth-fastest in the WAC this season.

For the Aggie men, Gensel was excited about senior Blake Hadfield's performances, as well as freshmen Silas Pimental and Josef Canavan's finishes.

Hadfield placed second in the men's triple jump with a distance of 48-11.00 and he also placed fourth in the men's long jump with a distance of 23-06.75. The 48-11.00 is the second-longest jump in school history and the fourth-best in the WAC this season. Hadfield's 23-06.75 is also the fourth-longest jump in the WAC this year.

Pimentel took third-place in the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.78, which is his personal best this season and is the fastest in the WAC this year.

Canavan improved his personal best by nearly a foot and half in the shot put with a distance of 54-02.50, good for third-place. The distance is the second furthest in the WAC this season.

Both the Aggie men's and women's 4x400 relay team placed third in their event. The Aggie men recorded a time of 3:21.20 and the women recorded a time of 3:56.02.

The Aggie track and field teams head to Boise, Idaho on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9, to compete in the Boise State Invitational.
