Utah State's Track and Field Teams Continue to Improve at Bronco Invitational

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's track and field teams had three athletes post personal bests as they competed at the Bronco Invitational Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9, hosted by Boise State.

The Aggie men competed against Arizona State, Boise State, College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon and Northwest Nazarene.

The USU women competed against Arizona State, Boise State, Nevada, Cal State Stanislaus, San Diego State, College of Idaho, VSA Track Club, San Francisco State, Eastern Oregon and Northwest Nazarene.

"We had big improvements tonight from both the men and the women's teams," said USU head coach Gregg Gensel. "I thought our kids did really well!"

Junior Nick Karren placed first in the 60m hurdles and third in the 200m with personal best times of 8.14 and 21.66, respectively. Karren moves into sixth place on the USU men's indoor top 10 list in both the 60m hurdles and the 200m.

Freshman sprinter Silas Pimentel placed third in the 200m with a personal best time of 21.48, while he placed fourth in the 60m with a time of 6.90. Pimentel moves into fourth-place on the USU men's indoor top 10 list for the 200m and is tied for seventh place in the 60m.

According to Gensel, sophomore Krista Larson competed against some of the best throwers in the country from Arizona State. She logged a personal best in the weight throw as she finished in fourth place, with a distance of 17.03m.

Senior Amy Egan was one of two Aggies who placed first in their individual events as she won the 800m with a Western Athletic Conference leading time of 2:10.33. Egan moves into second-place on USU women's indoor top 10 list where she currently holds third-place.

Other Aggie women who performed well include junior Tara Pickett who placed second in the high jump with a distance of 1.63m, senior Stacie Lifferth and juniors Vanessa Hawkins and Alison Taylor took three of the top five spots in the mile.

For the men, seven Aggies finished in the top 10 in the mile led by junior Seth Wold who placed second with a time of 4:12, followed by sophomore Steve Strickland in third with a time of 4:13.47. Wold moves into ninth-place for the mile on the USU men's indoor top 10 list.

Freshman Chio Lopez placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:17.81 and sophomore Jared Glenn placed fifth with a time of 4:18.96. Freshmen Eric Larsen, Hunter Nelson and Nick Bolinder placed seventh, ninth and 10th in the mile.

The Aggie track and field teams head to Seattle, Wash., Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15-16, to compete in the Washington Invitational.
