Follow The 2008 WAC Indoor Championships With Live Results

NAMPA, Idaho - Utah State field athlete junior John Strang is in the lead with 3,125 points at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships after completing four of the seven heptathlon events, Thursday.

Strang won the 60m (6.89), long jump (23-11.50) and high jump (6-09.75) and placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 32-00.75.

He is followed by fellow Aggies, freshman Charles Hopkins and senior Logan Moore.

Boise State's Heigo Nurmsalu is in second-place overall with 2,967 points, and Idaho's Mike Carpenter is in third with 2,830 points.

The three remaining events in the heptathlon will take place Friday, beginning with the 60m hurdles.

Competing for USU on the women's side in the pentathlon was sophomore Jennifer Scheiss and senior Aimee Sauvageau. Scheiss had her best finish in the high jump where she placed fifth with a height of 5-05.25 and Sauvageau's best was her third-place finish in shot put with a distance of 38-03.25.

The fifth event of the men's heptathlon will begin at 11 a.m. Friday followed by the field events beginning at 1:30 p.m., and the running events starting at 4 p.m.
