LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's track and field team had 20 athletes place in the top 10 at UCLA's Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif., this weekend led by senior Stacie (Lifferth) Dorius who won the 3000 meter steeplechase and junior Seth Wold who won the 10,000 meters.

"I think we did a good job the whole weekend," said USU head coach Gregg Gensel. "We had a lot of great performances and made a lot of improvements in many areas."

Dorius came in first-place in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a Western Athletic Conference leading and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 10:36.65, which is also her season best. Wold posted WAC leading times in the men's 5,000 and 10,000 meters as he won the 10,000 meters race recording a time of 30:58.35 and came in second-place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:31.55.

"Seth did a great job placing second in the men's 5,000 and then just an hour later, turning around and winning the 10,000 with a WAC leading time," added Gensel.

Senior Dasheek Akwenye, who leads the WAC in the men's 400 meters, finished in fourth-place with a time of 46.96, recording an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Junior Blake Hadfield also recorded a season best as he placed eighth in the men's triple jump with a distance of 47-10.00.

Other Aggies who posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks were junior Katie Thatcher, who ran the women's 400 meter hurdles in 60.68 coming in fifth-place, and freshmen Heidi Hopkins and Camille Fehlberg, who also ran the women's 400 meter hurdles, recording times of 62.71 and 63.25 respectively. Thatcher and Fehlerg both recorded season bests in their events. Sophomore Krista Larson had an NCAA provisional qualifying mark as she placed fourth in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 178-10.

On the men's side, sophomore Steve Strickland, who is second in the WAC in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, came in third-place with an NCAA provisional qualifying and season best time of 8:57.03.

Among those athletes, three Aggies placed in the top five of their events. Senior Aimee Sauvageau posted her season best as she placed fourth in the women's high jump with a height of 5-03.00, and junior Sarah Young finished in fifth-place in the women's javelin throw with a distance of 111-06.
