Strickland Tabbed WAC Track Athlete Of The Week

April 14, 2008

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State track and field athlete Steve Strickland has been named the Western Athletic Conference Male Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced Monday by the conference office, for the week of April 7-13.

Strickland, a sophomore from Orem, Utah (Mountain View HS), ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time and a season-best time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in placing third at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational this weekend at Los Angeles, Calif.

He is the second USU track and field athlete to earn the outdoor weekly honor from the WAC in four weeks, joining senior teammate Dasheek Akwenye who received the award on March 24.

Strickland and his USU teammates will be competing in their lone home outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, April 19 as they host the Mark Faldmo Invitational at the Ralph Maughan Track Stadium.
