Aggie Women's Basketball Topped By Hawai'i Thursday, 69-42

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Senior center Jenny Gross scored a game-high 15 points and added seven rebounds as Utah State women's basketball fell to Hawai'i, 69-42, Thursday evening at UH's Stan Sheriff Center in Western Athletic Conference action.

Junior guard Danyelle Snelgro scored 10 points for Utah State and was the only other player to score in double-figures as junior guard Ana Pares posted eight points. Senior guard Taylor Richards was held scoreless for the first time this season, while she tallied a season-high seven rebounds, as USU out-rebounded UH, 35-33.

Utah State fell in its seventh-straight game and is now 6-15 overall and 2-7 in conference action, while Hawai'i snapped a two-game losing streak and is now 9-13 on the season with a 3-6 league record.

Megan Tinnin and Saundra Cariaga scored 14 points each for UH, while Tinnin added seven rebounds. Tara Hittle and Iwona Zagrobelna each added 12 points, as Hittle added seven boards. Tanya Smith snared a game-high nine rebounds.

Hawai'i opened the game scoring five unanswered points before USU got on board with a jumper by Gross at the 18:30 mark. The Rainbow Wahine surged ahead during a five minute scoring drought by the Aggies, as UH was up 19-6 with 10:41 left in the half. Hawai'i finished out the half on a 16-10 run and took a 35-16 lead into the break.

Utah State went on a 10-3 run to open up the second half to cut the margin to 38-26 with 16:51 left to play. Hawai'i responded with an 11-3 run to go up 49-29 with 10:31 left and USU trailed by 18 or more through the rest of the game.

Utah State finished the game by shooting a season-low 26.1 percent from the field (16-of-61) including 4-of-24 (16.7 percent) from three-point range and shot 42.9 percent (6-of-14) at the free throw line. USU pulled down a season-high 20 offensive rebounds.

Hawai'i shot 58.7 percent (27-of-46) including 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from behind the three-point arc and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) at the charity stripe.

USU continues conference action on the road at Fresno State (13-9, 8-1 WAC) on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. (MT) at the Bulldogs' Save Mart Center.
