Jasmine Minion Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete Of The Week

April 14, 2008

Utah State gymanst Jasmine Minion has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 14, it was announced on Monday. The award is voted on by a state media panel.

Minion, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn., posted a season-best 9.900 on vault, in finishing in a three-way tie for second at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. The 9.900 on vault is USU's highest score on the apparatus this season and is tied for the third-highest score in school history, as Minion becomes the ninth Aggie gymnast to notch a 9.900.

Minion ends the season with a 9.759 season average on vault, which is the 11th-best season average on the apparatus in USU history.

This honor is the second of the season for USU gymnastics, as Megan Tschida earned the award on March 31.

Nominees from other sports included:

Both times were not only personal bests as well as the best times in the WAC this year, but were the 10th-best in school history in the 10,000 and the ninth-best time in the 5,000. The 5,000 and 10,000 meter races were only an hour apart.
