USU Softball Drops An 11-3 Run-Rule Contest At Oregon State Saturday
March 15, 2008
CORVALLIS, Ore. - After a pair of rain delays and two cancelled doubleheaders, the Utah State softball team dropped an 11-3 run-rule contest after six innings in a single game at Oregon State Saturday at the OSU Softball Complex. USU's doubleheader at Oregon originally scheduled for Saturday was cancelled because of the rainy weather, but Utah State returned to Corvallis to make up half of the doubleheader with Oregon State initially slated for Friday, but also cancelled due to the weather. The Aggies fall to 3-10 on the season, while the Beavers improve to 18-13 overall. Oregon State got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second. The Aggies responded in the top of the third as sophomore rightfielder Nicole Rupp singled to center and advanced to second on sacrifice hit by sophomore centerfielder Emily Reilly. Rupp moved to third on a wild pitch and continued on home after another wild pitch. OSU tallied three runs in the bottom of the third to go up, 4-1. Junior designated hitter Kayla Dunn started a rally in the visitor's half of the fourth, hitting a double to centerfield before advancing to third on a passed ball. Freshman shortstop Kelley Kaneshiro smacked her second two-run home run of the season over the centerfield fence to cut into the Beavers' lead. Freshman leftfielder Megan McDonald struck out to end the Aggies' rally and their scoring. Oregon State tacked on three runs in the home half of the fourth inning, three more in the fifth and another in the sixth to round out the scoring and end the game due to the run-rule. In the circle, junior Lindsey Benson took the loss for USU after pitching four and a half innings, and is now 3-9 on the season. Kelly Dyer picked up the win for OSU and moves to 10-9 on the year. USU concludes Cascade Clash action at Portland, Ore. facing No. 20 Washington in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 16 beginning at 12:30 p.m. (MT). |
