Utah State Softball Battles Utah Tuesday In A Doubleheader

April 14, 2008

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State softball plays a doubleheader at Utah on Tuesday, April 15, starting at 2 p.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah. Fans can follow all the Aggie action this week through the USU web site at www.UtahStateAggies via GameTracker, a free service, which updates play-by-play and statistics throughout the game.

Utah State is 11-24 on the season and 2-9 in the Western Athletic Conference, after picking up its first shutout of the season at Idaho State, 7-0, on Wednesday, April 9. USU is led by freshman SS Kelley Kaneshiro's .386 average which ranks fifth in the conference, while junior P Lindsey Benson leads the team with a 4.77 ERA and has struck out 105 in 148.1 innings of work.

Utah is 22-19 on the season after going 3-1 last weekend at San Diego State and UNLV. The Utes are led offensively by senior OF Diana Phillip's .400 average, while the team is led defensively by sophomore P Ashley Smuda's 2.71 ERA with a 13-9 overall record.

Utah State is 54-83-1 all-time versus Utah, USU's most-played series. Utah State picked up just its second win in the last 14 games against Utah earlier this season on March 26 in Logan as it won the first game, 3-1, and the Utes defeated the Aggies, 9-4, in the second game.

USU will play just its second conference road series this season at Louisiana Tech on Friday and Saturday April 18-19. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. (MT), while the doubleheader on Saturday is set to begin at 12 p.m. (MT).
