Kansas's Anderson has world-leading mark in 200 meters NEW ORLEANS - For the fifth consecutive week, the LSU Lady Tigers remain the top team in the women's USTFCCCA Indoor Track and Field Rankings released today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Lady Tigers competed over the weekend at the Tyson Invitational which was highlighted by junior Andrea Linton. Linton picked up an auto bid to the NCAA Championships after her effort in the triple jump (44'). In addition to securing her place in the triple jump field at the NCAA Championships, Linton is also a strong provisional qualifier in the long jump after posting a new indoor personal best of 20-5 ¼. Arizona State moved up four spots this week to No. 2, while Stanford moved up two spots to No. 3. Tennessee, Michigan and Texas A&M each dropped two places in the rankings to Nos. 4, 5 and 6 respectively. Minnesota moved up one spot to No. 7 this week. Penn State, last week's tenth-ranked team, moved up to eighth this week following Shana Cox's performance in the 400 meters. The senior clocked an NCAA leading 52.57 seconds at the Tyson Invitational. Following Penn State is Arkansas at No. 9 followed by Kansas at No. 10. Kansas moved up eight spots in the rankings after Nickesha Anderson's school record performance in the 200 meters. The senior ran a world-leading time of 22.94 seconds and became the first women in 2008 to break the 23-second barrier. Anderson's teammate, Crystal Manning, also added to the Jayhawks rise in the rankings this week after leaping to the fourth best triple jump in the NCAA this season (44'5"). No. 12 Texas and No. 17 Washington moved back into the top 25 this week. No. 16 UTEP entered the top 25 for the first time this season. The 2008 USTFCCCA Division I Rankings are released on Wednesdays during the indoor season. The rankings are compiled by Tom Lewis, assistant sports information director at Missouri.
