Florida State Looks toward NCAA Championships with Men's No. 1 Ranking

NEW ORLEANS - The Florida State Seminoles are this week's top-ranked team in the men's USTFCCCA Division I Indoor Track and Field Rankings, which was announced today by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The ranking comes on the heels of the NCAA Division I Track and Field Committee's announcement on the participants in this year's NCAA Division I Indoor Championships.  The Seminole men will have a total of nine athletes competing in this weekend's championships and one relay team.

Second-ranked Tennessee will look to give Florida State a run at title as they enter the national meet with eight qualifiers.  Following the Vols is third-ranked LSU, which moved up one spot this week.

No. 4 Arizona State follows the Tigers, followed by Arkansas at No. 5.  The Razorbacks moved up three spots in the rankings this week and will have home track advantage as Arkansas plays host to the NCAA Championships.  The Razorbacks will be anchored by their strong distance contingent as Arkansas has three runners in the 5000m and also has the second best time in the DMR in the NCAA this season.

Sixth-ranked Florida and seventh-ranked Stanford both dropped one spot in the rankings.

Eighth-ranked Oregon saw the biggest change in the top ten this week as they improved four places due in large part by Andrew Acosta's mile performance last weekend.  The sophomore broke Steve Prefontaine's Oregon school record, running three minutes, 58.52 seconds.

No. 9 Texas and No. 10 Northern Iowa complete the top ten in the men's rankings.
The NCAA Championships will be held March 14-15 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  A total of 568 participants will compete in the championships.  Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
