NEW ORLEANS - On February 6th, 2008 the Ashland University Eagles lost their top ranking to Adams State, who for the past three weeks held onto that title while Ashland remained at No. 2. This week that all changed as Ashland regained the top spot in the men's USTFCCCA Division II Coaches Indoor Track and Field Power Rankings, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today.

Ashland had a successful weekend on the track which led to the change in the rankings. Led by senior thrower Robert Klenk and junior pole vaulter Dan Tierney, the Eagles have positioned themselves as the favorite for the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. Klenk improved his national lead in the weight throw with a 69'2 ¾" toss. The throw was the second best weight throw in Division II history. Klenk's teammate Tierney also improved his jump in the pole vault as he cleared the bar at 17' ¾".

Following Ashland is previous number one, Adams State. The Grizzlies fell one spot in the rankings this week as they head into the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. Adams State will be looking for its fifth straight RMAC Indoor title.

Moving up five spots this week to crack the top five is third-ranked Grand Valley State. GVSU competed in the Grand Rapids Championships over the weekend and was led by junior Bryant Wilson. Wilson took the national lead in the pole vault, winning the event after clearing 17'3 ¾". The Lakers head to Findlay, Ohio this weekend where they will square off with top-ranked Ashland at the GLIAC Championships.

No. 4 Abilene Christian falls one spot this week while No. 5 Southern Illinois-Edwardsville remained fifth in the rankings.

Western State begins the next five at No. 6. Western State heads to Nebraska Kearney this weekend for the RMAC Championships. Central Missouri is next at No. 7 followed by Shippensburg (No. 8), Nebraska-Kearney (No. 9) and Minnesota State (No. 10).

A team's total point score is the sum of all points earned by that team in each event. Teams are allowed to select up to two athletes per event, and an athlete can only be used in a maximum of three events (not including relays). Only one relay team per event can be selected. Schools are responsible for submitting their own results.

The 2008 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships will be held March 14-15 at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.

Ashland University is the top-ranked women's team.
