NEW ORLEANS - Haverford College has been named the 2007 NCAA Division III USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic Cross Country Team of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today. Haverford receives the team honor after a 2007 cross country season that saw the Fords earn their highest-ever finish at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships (2nd), win their fifth straight (18th overall) Mideast Regional Title, and capture their 15th straight Centennial Conference title.
In the classroom, the Fords maintained a 3.51 cumulative team grade point average. In 2005 and 2006, the Fords were also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team list. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology had the highest overall team grade point average (3.68).
Overall, there were 98 Division III men's cross country teams that received the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award. At the national meet, 23 of the 32 teams in the championship field were on the list, including seven of the top ten.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 team cumulative grade point average.
