Wisconsin-La Crosse Men Still No. 1 as they Prep for Division III Indoor Nationals

NEW ORLEANS - Wisconsin-La Crosse came out of conference championship weekend with the same result they hope to leave Ada, Ohio with: CHAMPIONS! UW-La Crosse won their seventh straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference indoor title this past weekend, the school's 33rd title, and has remained the top ranked team in the men's USTFCCCA Division III Coaches Power Rankings which was announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Eagles bested five other WIAC schools (ranked in the top 25) at the conference meet scoring 137 points. No. 5 Wisconsin-Whitewater finished second with 125 points followed by No. 3 Wisconsin-Oshkosh with 104 points.

Following UW-La Crosse this week is second-ranked North Central who also picked up a conference title over the weekend. North Central won the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin for the eighth consecutive year as they racked up 220 points, outscoring runner-up No. 9 Augustana College (Ill.). Fourth-ranked St. Thomas and UW-Whitewater complete the top five in the men's rankings.

No. 6 Wisconsin-Eau Claire begins the bottom half of the top ten, followed by No. 7 Monmouth (Ill.) who won the Midwest Conference Championship, and No. 8 Wisconsin-Platteville.

Augustana and No. 10 Wartburg complete the top ten teams. Wartburg won the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, the school's fifth in the last six years.

Other conference champions in the top 25 included No. 12 Cortland State, who won the SUNYAC Championship, and No. 16 College of New Jersey. TCNJ won the New Jersey Athletic Conference Indoor title on February 25th, 2008.


 

 

Three conference meets are slated for this weekend as the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Ohio Athletic Conference and the University Athletic Association each hold their championship meets on March 7th and 8th.

The 2008 NCAA Men's and Women's Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held March 14-15, 2008 at the ONU Sports Center. Ohio Northern University is the host for the championships.

Wisconsin-La Crosse is the top-ranked Division III women's team.
