Three Ute Linemen Become NFL Free Agents

April 29, 2008

SALT LAKE CITY -
Three Ute senior linemen have agreed to NFL free agent deals - Martail Burnett with the Minnesota Vikings, Gabe Long with the Houston Texans and Jason Boone with the New Orleans Saints.

Burnett, a 2007 first-team all-conference defensive end, played in 47 games for the Utes and started his last three years. He led the team in sacks and tackles for loss as a junior and senior and ranks in the top 10 in both categories in the school career record books, recording 17 sacks (No. 7) and 33.5 tackles for loss (No. 4).

Long was a second-team all-conference defensive lineman in 2007. He played both tackle and end in his two-year Ute career.

Boone was named to the preseason all-conference team shortly before suffering a season-ending knee injury last August. He has since recovered. Boone was an honorable mention all-MWC offensive lineman as a junior in 2006.
