SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's basketball team (18-3, 7-0 Mountain West) limited Colorado State to just 20 percent shooting in running away with the 40-point, 68-28, win over the Rams here today.
The win over CSU (2-18, 0-7 MWC) extends Utah's winning streak to a league-best 13 games.
The Utes held the Rams to just five first-half field goals. Two of CSU's field goals came in the game's first four minutes, but Utah was able to race out to a 17-4 lead by the time the visitors recorded their third bucket at the 13:23 mark. Utah never let the Rams get any closer as the Crimson and White pushed its lead up to 23 points, 31-8, thanks to a 12-4 run. The largest lead of the half came when Jessica Perry made a lay-up in the final minute of the half. It gave the Utes a 39-10 lead going into the break.
The 10 first-half points for CSU was its lowest first-half output of the year. It surpassed the 13-point first half the Rams had against Idaho State back on Dec. 18. The 28 points was also CSU's lowest point total in a game this season.
Utah's lead just snowballed in the second half, as it kept connecting at 48 percent (25-for-52) clip. More impressive, though, was the 9-for-12 effort for the game from three-point range. Utah's 29-point halftime lead swelled to as much as 43 in the second half, 65-22, with 5:15 remaining. It enabled the Utes to coast to the 40-point victory.
All nine Utah players scored as Morgan Warburton led everyone with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting. She was also a red-hot 4-for-5 from long distance. Kalee Whipple helped out with 13 points, seven boards and five assists.
Point guard Leilani Mitchell picked apart the defense as well, tallying 10 points and six assists. She added three boards, two steals and block for good measure.

The first round through the league wraps up for Utah when it plays at UNLV on Feb. 6. Tipoff in Las Vegas is set for 7 p.m. (PT).
