Feb. 4, 2008

On the heels of the program-best sixth consecutive winning season, the UTEP soccer team has turned its attention to the future with the announcement of the 2008 spring schedule by head coach Kevin Cross Monday evening.

The Miners will play five games in the spring slate, with a tilt against the Mexican National Team highlighting the slate. UTEP will travel across the border to take on the national squad on Friday. The Miners will then challenge the University of Chihuahua on Feb. 9. The opportunity to test his squad's ability against international competition is not lost on Cross.

"It is a huge opportunity for UTEP to be selected to compete against Mexico's Senior National Team," Cross said. "It shows us how much respect the program has. It will be an experience that our ladies will never forget since they will be playing in front of thousands of fans.

"It will be a huge challenge for us as we are playing against Mexico's best players which are preparing for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament," Cross concluded.

The rest of UTEP's spring schedule is as follows. The Miners take on Arizona on March 8 before battling Arizona State and Texas Tech the weekend of April 12.
