Salifu Continues Success at SUU
May 4, 2008 CEDAR CITY, Utah - Utah Valley Track and Field places first in 12 of the 36 events in the SUU Invitational on Saturday. It was a battle of the brother's at Eccles Coliseum as UV's head coach Scott Houle took on his brother, Eric Houle, the head coach of Southern Utah. Mariama Salifu continues to have a great senior campaign for the Wolverines as she finished first in the 100-meter dash as well as the 200. Her blazing times were 12.07 and 24.57 respectfully. Utah Valley women continued to shine as they finished first in all of the long sprints as well. Sophomore Alise Lindsey took the 800 with a time of 2:17.91. Karinne Bentley won the 1500 (4:44.31), while Trisha Wright-Coombs took the 3000 (10:47.23). The Wolverine women also won both relays as the finished the 4x100 relay with a time of 46.72 and in the 4x400 relay they were almost a full seven seconds ahead of the Thunderbirds with a time of 3:54.36. Freshman Amanda Peart also finished first for UV in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:04.91. Sophomore Ashley Timo nabbed the top honors for high jump as she cleared 5 feet 3 inches. The Utah Valley men were led by strong performances from Sophomore Sean Dyreng as he finished second in the 800 only a few split seconds behind the leader and first place finishes from Andrew Graham and Clark Nielson in the 400-meter and the 3000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Jared Ray led the way in the pole vault competition for the Wolverines as well. Utah Valley will attend the Utah Twilight Wednesday May 7th in Salt Lake City and will conclude their season this upcoming weekend as they'll host the National Athletic Conference 2008 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Provo, Utah on the campus of BYU. It begins Friday May 9th at noon and will conclude Saturday May 10th at approximately 1:00 p.m. Admission is free to the public and everyone is welcome to support your Wolverines. |
