National Leaders by Event

OREM, Utah - When Utah Valley junior distance star Chase Englestead shattered the school record in the 3000 meter Steeplechase last weekend at UCLA he not only was the first runner in school history to post a sub-nine minute time, he also landed himself in 10th place nationally this year with his 8:56.53 time.

The time was also an NCAA Regional-qualifying mark by better than 11 seconds. The run topped the previous school record by 13 seconds.

Englestead had an excellent meet at UCLA as he broke two school records: the aforementioned 3000 meter Steeplechase and the mile run as he ran the mile in 4:19.19.

Englestead finished first in the Steeplechase and seventh in the mile at a meet that included professionals, olympians and some of the best NCAA schools.

Utah State Meet Saturday

The Wolverines will continue their season this week when they travel to Logan, Utah, Saturday to compete against local talent at the Mark Faldmo Invitational hosted by Utah State.

Utah Valley will focus on sprints and throwers this weekend and give the distance team the week off to focus on the upcoming BYU meet in two weeks.

The Wolverines will run with athletes from Idaho State, Utah, Utah State, Weber State and BYU.
