Brinkerhoff's Four Hits Not Enough as Wolverines Fall

April 13, 2008

Box Score

RENO, Nevada - Jace Brinkerhoff had four hits and three runs batted in but Utah Valley fell 7-5 at Nevada on Sunday. The loss gave the Wolf Pack (21-14) a sweep of the four game series over the Wolverines (7-24-1).

Brinkerhoff hit his fourth home run of the year in the seventh inning and made things interesting in the ninth with a two-out, two-run double but it wasn't enough for Utah Valley. Kevin Arendse had two hits for the Wolverines while Matt Bowman was 2-for-3 with three batted in including an inside the park home run for Nevada.

For the Wolf Pack, Jason Rodriguez hit a one-out double in the bottom of the first to score Bowman all the way from first, giving Nevada an early 1-0 lead.

The Wolverines tied it up in the second after Kevin Arendse doubled with one out and a batter later Jake Rickenbach delivered a two-out single to tie the game.

The Wolf Pack regained a one run advantage in the bottom of the second on a two-out single by Jason Sadoian. An inning later Mike Hale homered to right to give Nevada a 3-1 lead.

UV got a single run back in the fourth when Cole Anderson and Scott Croshaw hit back-to-back two-out doubles.

After Nevada scored runs in the fourth and fifth and Brinkerhoff hit his home run to left in the seventh, Matt Bowman hit a high fly ball to left that Tyler Garretson made a leaping attempt at. Garretson crashed into the wall and was injured on the play, allowing Bowman to score on the rare inside the park home run.

The Wolverines will be back in action on Tuesday at 3pm at Utah in Salt Lake City in a game played at Ute Field.
