Smith Fires a 3-Under 69 in St. George

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Andrew Smith fired a 3-under, 69 as Utah Valley improved by 20 strokes as a team to finish in 15th place at the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George. After a 314 in Monday's opening round, the Wolverines came back with a much improved round of 294 on Tuesday Smith's round moved him into a tie for 43rd, at +3 overall, along with teammate Nick Nelson who was even par over the final 18 holes. Gavin Rice finished in a tie for 81st after a 75 on Tuesday had him finish at +11 overall. Adam Tayler's 74 (+2) put him at +12 for the two-day tournament and in a tie for 88th along with Syler Distefano. Denver's Scott Tashie won medalist honors after a one-hole playoff with Rice's Michael Buttacavoli. The two finished the tournament at -7 while Kentucky took home the team title with a two-day total of 14-under. The Wolverines will be back in action next week at the Carlton Oaks Invitational in San Diego. |
