Wolverines in Second at Carlton Oaks Invitational

SANTEE, California - Utah Valley has three golfers in the top 10 and sits in second place out of 11 teams at the Carlton Oaks Invitational in Santee, California. The Wolverines finished the first 18 holes in first place, after firing a 293 at the Carlton Oaks Country Club. Nick Nelson, Jeff Gibson and Andrew Smith each shot 73 (+1) in the opening round while Skyler Distefano's 74 helped propel UV into the early lead. Despite slipping a little and shooting a 314 in round two in the afternoon, the Wolverines are still in contention, 12 shots behind leader Point Loma Nazarene. Host Drake University is five shots back of Utah Valley and in third place. Nelson and Gibson both shot 5-over 77 in round two and are tied for 7th at +6 overall while Smith's 78 in round two has him tied for 9th and 7-over for the tournament. Point Loma's Sam Cyr and Brandan Kelley are tied for first at +1 overall. The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday morning. |
