Nelson Registers Third Place Finish at Cal Poly Intercollegiate
March 28, 2008
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Utah Valley's Nick Nelson shot a final round 72, good enough for third place overall at the Cal Poly Intercollegiate in Arroyo Grande, California on Friday. Nelson finished just one shot shy of Brycen Wagner of Cal Poly and Cory Renfrow of British Columbia. Wagner earned the individual title by default as British Columbia had already departed home to Vancouver. As a team, the Wolverines had their best round of the tournament combining to shoot 298 and moving up to seventh place after starting the day in eighth. Jeff Gibson shot 76 (+4) to finish +12 the 54-hole tournament, putting him in a tie for 23rd place. Brad Bills finished in a tie for 46th, a good showing for the freshman participating in his first tournament. Cal Poly won the team championship by 11 strokes over Cal State Northridge. Nelson and two other golfers led the field with 13 birdies. Up next for UV is the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on April 7-8 in Scottdale, Arizona. The team will close out the 2007-08 season on April 18-19 at the Ping Cougar Classic in Provo. Final Utah Valley Scores |
