PROVO, Utah - The Utah Valley men's golf team had a solid final round to close out the 2007-08 season as the Wolverines shot a 292 to move into 12th place at the Ping Cougar Classic at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.

Andrew Smith shot a 1-under 71 to lead the team on Saturday while Nick Nelson and senior Jeff Gibson both fired an even-par 72. Nelson was the top UV finisher over the 54-hole tournament, finishing in a tie for 14th. Smith finished in a tie for 26th and Gibson, in his final tournament, tied for 39th.

Boise State's Troy Merritt won medalist honors by two strokes. Nelson finished seven shots back of Merritt. New Mexico State won the team title by 11 shots over host BYU.

The Wolverines had their best round of the tournament on Saturday to finish seven shots in front of Utah State.
