Road Woes Continue at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, California - Utah Valley's road woes continued Thursday as the Wolverines (13-6) dropped their third straight game, all on the road, 94-78 at CSU Bakersfield.

UV has lost six straight games on the road and returns home Monday to face Chicago State, where they are a perfect 9-0. Monday's game is Pack the House night in the McKay Center. Families can get in for just $10 and everyone in attendance will have a chance to win two MP3 players and shots a a big screen TV and a Harley Sportster.

Robyn Fairbanks had game-highs of 20 points and nine rebounds, the seventh straight game she has scored 20 or more.

The Wolverines got solid contributions off the bench from Rebekah Peterson, who had 14 points, five rebounds and four assists while and Lauren Smith had eight points and tied a career high with eight rebounds.

Peterson and Smith combined to hit 10-for-12 from the field as Utah Valley hit 46.2% for the game while the Roadrunners (9-10) hit 51.5% overall and 58.8% (10-for-17) from the three-point line. The Wolverines struggled on threes, missing their first 12 before hitting four late in the game.

Kelley Tarver and Tiffany Belt, who was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, shared team-high honors with 17 apiece for CSUB.

The Wolverines took a quick 6-2 lead right out of the gate before the 'Runners used a 15-0 run to take control of the game.

After carrying a 46-31 lead into the break, CSUB began the second half on a 15-2 to stretch the lead to 61-33, putting the game out of reach. The Wolverines trailed by as much as 33 before a late push brought the final outcome within 16.

It was the first ever meeting between the two teams, who will meet again on March 1st in Orem. The possibility of a third game is also there; at the Division I Independent Championship March 6-8 in Edinburg, Texas.
