OREM, Utah - Women's basketball senior Rebekah Peterson and men's basketball freshman Matt Komenda are the Utah Valley Scholar Athletes of the Month for January. Both athletes posted an impressive 3.94 GPA during the fall semester.

Peterson, from Salinas, California, will graduate this spring with a degree in Psychology. She has cumulative GPA of 3.81 and is a three-time member of the Division I Academic All-Independent team.

On the court, Peterson has helped the Wolverines to their most successful season, tying a school record with 15 wins with six games remaining. She is averaging 6.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and scored a season high 14 at CSU Bakersfield on January 24th.

Komenda, who hails from Mesa, Arizona, averages 2.8 points and 3.0 rebounds in 12.0 minutes per game for the Wolverines. In his second collegiate game, Komenda pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, six on the offensive glass playing at No. 10 Marquette.

Komenda has recorded six-or-more rebounds in six games this season. He recorded a career-high 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting in Utah Valley's 72-51 win over Troy on Nov. 20.
