Women's Hoops Places Six on Academic All-Independent Team

OREM, Utah - Six Utah Valley women's basketball players were named to the 2007-08 Division I Academic All-Independent Team on Thursday, led by three-time honoree Rebekah Peterson. Peterson (Salinas, California) has been named to the team in each of the three seasons she has been eligible and was recently named the Utah Valley athletic department's female scholar athlete of the month. She will graduate in April with a degree in Psychology. Peterson has a 3.81 cumulative GPA, the highest of the 16 players that represent nine independent schools. Junior Hollie Beaman (Kingwood, Texas) was named to the team for the second time in her career. Beaman is majoring in Exercise Science and holds a 3.23 GPA. Robyn Fairbanks (Raymond, Alberta), a junior, is also an Exercise Science major and is on the team for the first time. Fairbanks has a 3.22 GPA and was also recently named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team. Two other juniors, Sandy Marvin and Lauren Smith, are also first-time honorees. Marvin (Payson, Utah), who has a 3.30 GPA, is an Exercise Science major while Smith, who sports a 3.22 GPA, is majoring in Public Relations. In her first season of eligibility, sophomore Blake Reynolds (Boise, Idaho) rounded out the six Wolverines on the academic squad. Reynolds is majoring in Biology and boasts a 3.59 GPA. |
