Wolverines Host CSU Bakersfield on Senior Day

OREM, Utah - The Utah Valley women's basketball team hosts CSU Bakersfield on Saturday at 3:05pm MT on Senior Day in The McKay Center. The game can be heard live on WolverineGreen.com. Susie Cornejo and Rebekah Peterson will be playing in their final home gamed for the Wolverines (15-9) and will be honored prior to tip-off. The two seniors are the first two Utah Valley women's basketball players to play all four of their seasons at the NCAA level. Peterson ranks fourth on Utah Valley's all-time NCAA scoring list with 701 career points, an average of 6.7 points per game. Peterson set a career-high with 25 points and set a school record with five three-pointers made against North Dakota State last season. Cornejo averages just under three points per game for her career and set a career high with 16 points against Portland State in January of 2006. The Wolverines (15-9), who can finish a perfect 12-0 inside the McKay Center with a win on Saturday, lost two games last week, at NJIT and at Chicago State. Robyn Fairbanks had 34 points and 17 rebounds against NJIT and averaged 24 points and 12 boards on the week. She is currently fourth in the country with a 24.0 points per game average. Fairbanks also ranks among the national leaders in field goal percentage and rebounds. She is hitting 57.5 percent from the field (13th) and is pulling down 10.0 rebounds per game (18th). About CSU Bakersfield The `Runners controlled nearly the entire game, leading by as much as 33 points. Kelly Tarver and Tiffany Belt both finished with 17 for CSUB while Fairbanks had 20 for the Wolverines. They've won two out of three games, including a 69-58 win over independent Texas-Pan American in their final home game of the season. Kelly Tarver is leading CSUB with an average of 17.3 points per game, third among all independent players. Fairbanks an All-American Candidate After finishing third in the country with 23.7 points per game last year, Fairbanks is currently fourth nationally at 24.0 points while also ranking in the top 20 in rebounds (10.0) and field goal percentage (.575). The Canadian import has scored in double figures in 49 consecutive games and has scored 20 points or more 17 times this year. Fairbanks has been named the Division I Independent Player of the Week five times and has been the a WBCA Honorable Mention National Player of the Month twice. |
