Game One Box - Game Two Box

OREM,Utah The Utah Valley women's softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Northern Colorado Wednesday at MSTAR Field, 10-2 and 6-3. With the losses, the Wolverines dropped to 12-32 on the year, and the Bears improved to 16-36.

"It's still about learning how to battle and compete," UVU head coach Todd Fairboune said after the games. "They got it done and we didn't. I was proud that our girls were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the second game. We never gave up."

Junior Heidi Stocks led the way offensively for Utah Valley with four hits in six at bats and scored one run on the day. Sophomore Jessica Anderson also had two hits and three RBI on the day including her second homerun of the season, a two-run shot in the first game.

The Wolverines struggled from the plate in the first game, scoring only two runs on three hits and leaving one runner on base in five innings. Anderson's bomb in the fourth inning scored Stocks who was 2-for-2 in the game. UNC's Mackenzie Barrett hit two homers in the game including a grand slam in the top of the fifth to earn the eight-run spread. Sophomore Alli Bramwell recorded the loss in the game and fell to 10-14 on the season.

The second game was a much closer battle. The Bears scored three runs in the first inning, but the Wolverine scored two of their own in the second to close the gap to one run. UNC led 4-2 going into the top of the seventh, but scored two insurance runs to push the lead to 6-2. Utah Valley scored one run in the seventh and had two runners on with only one out. Despite bringing two batters to the plate that represented tying runs, the Wolverines could not complete the comeback. Sophomore Natalie Nance pitched the entire game and fell to 1-5 on the season.

Utah Valley will be in action again Friday in another doubleheader at home against Cal State Bakersfield with start times set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The same two teams will face off in another doubleheader again Saturday in Orem with start times set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
