UC Riverside Tournament Up Next for UV

March 6, 2008

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley will continue its season as the Wolverines (3-9) will head to Southern California for a challenging three-day tournament. UV will play Big 10 foe Iowa twice, Buffalo once and host school UC Riverside once.

The Wolverines will be facing each of their three opponents for the first time. Utah Valley will start against Iowa Friday morning at 10 a.m. (PT) Saturday, the Wolverines will play their only double header of the weekend when they take on Buffalo (9 a.m.) and UC Riverside at 1 p.m. UV will wrap up its weekend with a 9 a.m. Sunday game with Iowa.

"This will be a challenging weekend," UV head coach Todd Fairbourne said. "We need to start hitting better if we are going to compete with any of the teams we face this weekend."

Utah Valley is coming off a double header split with nationally ranked NAIA school College of Idaho this past weekend. The Wolverines ran away with the first game, winning 8-0 in five innings. In the second game, CI returned the favor, beating the Wolverines 4-2.

Alli Bramwell leads UV pitchers with a 3-2 record, including a complete-game, one-hit shut out in the Wolverines victory over CI. Heidi Stocks leads all Wolverine hitters with a .424 batting average.

After this weekend, UV will conclude its preseason tournaments with a trip to Las Vegas for the UNLV Rebel Round Robin next week.
