Staten Island, NY - The Wagner track & field team won a total of ten events and placed second in seven as they closed out the Wagner Invitational on a very blustery Saturday afternoon. The women's 4x100 relay team started things off with a 51.00 win while junior Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) placed second in the fifth event, the 5000m run, with a time of 16:08.20. In the women's 5000m, the Seahawks took first, second and third with junior Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro), senior Meaghan Robbins (Waymart, PA/Western Wayne) and junior Ashley Mallen (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa). Drager sped past the competition to a 17:44.70 time with Robbins right be hind her, clocking in at 18:58.19 and Mallen in 19:17.75. Junior Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) had herself a day on the track and in the field with first place finishes in the 100 meter hurtles (14.86) and the long jump (5.79m) as she also finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 12.97. Senior Joseph Kinard (Kingston, NY/Kingston) put up first place numbers with a 15.98 performance in the 110m hurdles while senior Jocelyn Ford (Neptune, NJ/Red bank Catholic) took to top honors in the 400m with a time of 1:00.15. They are both joined by freshman Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur) who crossed the finish line in 2:26.54 in the 800m run. Senior Samantha Snukis (St. Clair, PA/Nativity BVM) took home the gold in the 1500m run with a final time of 4:55.03 as sophomore jumper Amanda Gland (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) took top honors in the triple jump with a 10.78 leap. Gland also finished second in the long jump with a 4.86m performance. Rounding out the individual winners is Bryan Pagliuca (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot), who tied for first in the high jump, bounding six feet two inches. Senior throwers Crystal Smith (Zenda, WI/Big Foot) and Blake Lintelman (Coral Springs, FL/West Point Military Academy) each placed second with Smith's coming in the hammer throw (43.56m) and Lintelman's in the shot put (12.81m). All in all, it was a very successful day for the Seahawks. The Green & White will look to continue their winning ways when they head down to the Penn Invitational on April 5th in Philadelphia, PA. |
