Charlottesville, VA - Seniors Samantha Snukis (St. Clair, PA/Nativity BVM) and Gwendolyn Moore (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) along with junior Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) broke Wagner track & field program records at the Lou Onesty Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia. Snukis brought home the record in the 800m with a 2:15.48 performance, landing her third place in the event. She broke the record set by Nicole Brown in 1994 with a 2:16.69 run. Moore is now tops in the program in the javelin at 42.81m and took second in the event. Her distance also bested the ECAC qualifying distance and will send her to the ECAC Championships come May 15th. Alfano leaped an impressive 37' 11.50" and into sixth place for the event. She surpasses Kristen Risch's 37' 6" jump that stood as the school record since 2002. The junior also put together a stellar 6.10m performance in the long jump, qualifying her for the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships that will be hosted by Florida State on May 23rd. Snukis, Moore and Alfano were joined by Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) who nabbed second place in the 3000m run with a time of 10:28.26. The junior also took eighth place in the 1500, running 4:42.45. Fellow distancer Jenna Naglieri (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) brought home a third place performance in the 3000m steeple chase, clocking in at 12:32.17. Senior Jessica Ford (Neptune, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) pulled together a personal best in the 400 with a time of 59.52, the women's 4x400 relay team ran a season best 3:59.49 while freshman Jessica Balling (Seaford, NY/MacArthur) sped her way to an 800m time of 2:21.32. For the men's side of things, freshman Coleman Edmond (Kingston, NY/Harmony Prep MI) brought an impressive pace into the 100m dash with a time of 10.78 seconds and the 200 dash, clocking in at 22.04. Sophomore James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) took 11th in the 1500 with a time of 4:01.87 while junior Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) put together a tenth place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 15:59.42. Rounding out things for the men, sophomore Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep) clocked in at 1:58.40 in the 800m while sophomore Matthew Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) ran a season best 56.31 in the 400m hurdles. Wagner will head home to Grymes Hill and rest up before the Seahawks take part in the METS Championships on Saturday, April 19th. |
