Staten Island, NY - Head Coach Joe Stasi and the Wagner track & field team are set to take on Northeast Conference (NEC) foes Fairleigh Dickinson, Long Island and St. Francis (NY) at the Wagner Quad Meet today at 3:00 PM. "I'm excited to look at what we have to face at the NEC Championships," notes Stasi. "The athletes have been performing well in the early get-go and it will be interesting to actually see how we do stacked up against NEC competition." Stasi brings to the table a list of top performers in last week's Penn Invitational. Freshman sprinter Coleman Edmond (Kingston, NY/Harmony Prep) ran an impressive 49.10 in the 400m as sophomore distance runner James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) took sixth place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:37.13. The men's 4x100 also ran an impressive 43.11 in the meet. Senior Samantha Snukis (St. Clair, PA/Nativity BVM) and Amanda Gland's (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) performances at Penn are good signs that the women's team will be putting up good numbers come Wednesday. Snukis took 13th in the 800m with a time of 2:16.98 while Gland put up impressive distances in the long jump (5.34m) and triple jump (10.93). Junior Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) also ran a stellar 4:44.10 in the 1500, toping her season best by over two seconds. The men's discuss and men's 4x100m relay are the first events of the meet and are set to start at 3:00 PM with the last event of the day to come in the women's 4x200 relay. The meet will take place at Wagner College Stadium located on Howard Avenue. |
