April 29, 2008

Box Score

Easton, PA - Hamstrung by the absence of many players due to class-conflicts the short-handed Wagner Seahawks fell to Lafayette 9-2 in non-conference action at Kamine Stadium. With the loss the Green & White moves to 18-22 while the Leopards improve to 21-21.

Freshman Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) went 2-4- with a RBI to lead the Wagner offense.

Lafayette assumed the early-lead when Adam McMahon hit a three-run home run with one out in the first inning.

The Leopards scored three more runs in the second before tacking on another run in the fourth to make it 7-0.

In the top of the fifth, sophomore Kevin Payne (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) laced a single to centerfield for Wagner's first hit of the game but on the next pitch was erased by a double play.

Wagner would finally get on the board in the top of the seventh. Junior Chris Drechsel (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) led off with a double. After a pair of outs, Payne drew a walk before Rice singled to right-center, plating Drechsel to cut the deficit to 7-1.

Lafayette would score a run in the seventh and eighth innings to extend the lead out to 9-1.

Freshman Joe Jamison (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell) tripled to lead off the ninth and scored on a double play to account for Wagner's final run of the game.

Freshman lefty David Rees (Staten Island, NY / Xavier) looked good for his second-straight appearance, striking out one over 2.0 scoreless innings of work. Classmate Ian Karlsson (Brooklyn, NY / Xaverian) also looked solid out of the bullpen, yielding just a single run over 2.1 innings.

Senior LHP Chris Marino (Manalapan, NJ / Manalapan) took the loss in his first collegiate start, yielding four earned runs over 1.2 innings.

Lafayette starter LHP Corey Shea improved to 3-1, striking out five while yielding one run on three hits over 7.0 innings. Daniel Bierce and Chris Luick each recorded three hits to lead the Lafayette-offense.
